Where to put this picture

Just a quickie ... managed to get a nice picture of a Pheasant that found its way into my garden, but I'm unsure which bird category to upload it to ...

pheasants go in the main Bird Gallery (rather than one of the bird sub-galleries) if they meet the quality criteria (a Gallery search is a good way to reveal precisely which Gallery each species goes in). If you simply want to include an image in a thread then you can upload it to the unmoderated Forum Images Gallery.

The Gallery software is in a state of transition at the moment so bear with us if you have problems uploading.

On the other hand ... it might be of interest in the gardening forum if it were eating your crops! I mention this because I've been talking to people who have had problems with them ....

It didn't do any damage ... just ate a mountain of bread I'd put out, cleaned up some seed from under the bird-table, then scarpered ...

I bet the blackbirds resented it!
Will be interesting to see if they return - they are animals of habit, I'm told ....

There are quite a few around here, but I'd never seen one venture into the garden before. As for resentment, there was a rather bewildered looking robin watching it ... you could almost hear it thinking, "what the hell is that?".

This one's not good enough for the Gallery, but you get the idea ...

Where's my grub gone?
It is interesting, perhaps less for the robin than for seed eaters such as chaffinches: what do birds which are habituated to human sources of food do when some big intruder comes in and eats their daily supply? I've never had the problem with pheasants but pigeons are similar?

We just refill the feeders and hope the smaller birds get their share ... our biggest 'food-hoovers' are the starlings this time of year ...
