bird indentification
Can someone help me out.
I live in Walsall in the West Midlands.
I saw a Blackbird sized bird today, black body, yellow beck. At first I thought it was a blackbird but it had white rings around its dark eyes and white patches on its cheeks/coverts plus white colouration on the alula.
Lastly it had a single white feather in the tail. I've looked through books for European and British birds and can't find anything that looks like it.
It was seen in a wooded area next to a flooded open cast mine.
Any ideas?

Could it have been a blackbird with part albino or leucism? They're quite common.

Without a photo i would have to agree with a grumpy cow...lol...that sounds brilliant ha ha

Sometimes blackbirds can have a large amount of white feathering in different places I can't think of what else it could be there is one that regularly visits my garden with white spots on it's head.

That makes sense. The white colouration was 'irregular' apart from the patches on the cheeks.
