We were taking the dogs to the beach at Thorpe Bay, near Southend, Essex when I noticed a group of three of these between the huts near the shoreline at high tide today. |

I'd agree on the identity.
I'm fascinated by the picture - the surf almost looks like snow and the beach itself seems mostly shells? |
