| | | My First swallow Hi All
I was out Yesterday walking on the outskirts on my town of Hartlepool on the NEast coast, near the village of Elwick, when my first Swallow of the year flew past....It seemed to be in a hurry to go somewhere else, as it was flying at speed (in a Northly direction)and not feeding at all...
This to me is the true arrival of spring, along with the flowering Oil Seed Rape that so many Hay favour suffers hate...

Dee ........ :-) | I have been lucky and have seen a few so far this year but I agree about the arrivals of the Swallow being a spring indicator. The bird that does it for me the most though is the arrival of the Swift. That to me means summer isn't far off.
I have to say that Swifts are one of my favourite birds with their wheeling and screaming in the skies and I always look forward to their arrival. Hopefullly I will se a few whilst on a fortnights holiday in Norfolk from this weekend.

| | | Re: My First swallow I seen my first swallow yesterday while I was at Edinburgh Zoo. It was flying across the field in the zebra enclosure. Now I know that spring is here! |

Dee ........ :-) | Swallows are definitely one of the signs of spring .... and certainly far more enjoyable than the Oil Seed Rape for the very reasons that you mention Dee!
Plenty of Swallows around in Essex now and no Oil Seed Rape
