Oh well never mind. I have only seen them flying, I thought the size was a bit small but the beak threw me.

Crow I'm afraid Dai. Here are a couple of images. The first an excellent shot by Richew of a Raven and the second an excellent shot by glsammy of a Crow.  
The Raven has a much heavier and longer beak than a Crow.

I saw a pair of ravens yesterday getting mobbed by herring gulls. What a racket!
I've never seen a Raven other than in the air, usually quite high too. The call gives them away for me.

Bigger bird altogether, that one is a Carrion Crow,lots of Ravens in Wales though

There are a pair of ravens on the hill behind my house - the size compared to the buzzard and the sound of their calls confirmed it.
I am a total Corvidophile and I am thrilled to see them, and to have a very friendly magpie living in my garden at the moment  .

I managed some shots of ravens at Gigrin - I know this is still quite a way from South Wales and that you have been before (I think)
