Duck identification help please

Hi all
I'm new here so go gentle with me, I'm also new to bird photography. Today i took a picture of what looked like a mallard but it had a brown tuft on it's head and a black and white front, I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this duck.

Thanks Tony

Welcome to WAB Tony.

Can you possibly post the picture you took to help us with the ID?

Hi Tony and welcome to the WAB site, is it possible for you to upload a photo that you took. If you can I will guarantee someone (not me) will identify it for you.

Re: Duck identification help please

I'm sorry I should have thought to do that in the first place.

Re: Duck identification help please

Welcome to the forum Tony.

The duck in question is a type of mallard cross - a domestic breed. They come in all shapes and sizes. Please see the following images, and read image descriptions:

Carl

Carl if you like photography and nature then we probably have spoken before, I seem to be in a number of forums but the welcome and quick responce means this is a forum I will be keeping an eye on.

I think the thing we have in common is maybe FZ20, Does that sound familiar.

I think it's already identified as a domestic Mallard. I don't think Red-breasted Merganser has a black + white front, though there is a white ring around the neck.
