Garden first for me

Hi,
Probably doesn't seem much to most people but I was that excited when what I believe was a Chiffchaff visited my bird feeders this afternoon.

It had been a dull day and was just beginning to brighten so I though I would set up the camera and tripod in the hope I might get a decent shot of the resident Robin as he/she had been showing well lately.

Been waiting a few minutes when this little boy/girl landed on the metalwork just above the feeders. It didn't eat anything in fact it only stayed a few seconds but it was a first for the garden and really made my day.

I'm pretty sure it's a Chiffchaff going by the darkish legs but if anyone thinks it could be a Willow Warbler I am open to correction.
Roger

You're right- it's definitely a chiffchaff. Nice visitor.

Re: Garden first for me

That's a lovely picture. We don't normally get them visiting the garden so I would be equally excited to see one.

Re: Garden first for me

Great shot Roger, and it's nice to have one in your garden. It's interesting that you've found one on your feeder as well, I had one recently which sat on top of my feeders and chased off any bird that came to try and feed. It never tried to eat either.
Yours didn't seem to be showing any of this kind of behaviour did it?
Guy

Re: Garden first for me

Thanks Demicav, Guy and WestLothian.
Guy, it didn't hang around long enough to show any kind of behaviour really. It had a very quick look down at what was on offer in the feeders etc and was then off. Can't have been there more than ten seconds

Re: Garden first for me

I too had my first "Garden" Chiff Chaff this afternoon. In and around the feeders and bird table ( but never on them) spent a good ten minutes hopping about in one of my mums god awful non native palms in a pot....I had my bins handy ( even though the chiff chaff was literally just outside the conservatory door) and it gave me a good chance to really get a clear look at a bird i normally see tucked away in some scrub or 'heard and not seen'....pretty little thing really with its "dirty legs"
