Googled its description, so far come up with this; Black-and-orange Flycatcher - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
But its an Indian bird,

From what I can gather it's native to North Africa...probably an escapee but I guess it's not impossible for it to be a lost traveller

| | | Re: strange red bird , can anybody help id it? It's a Southern Red Bishop, Euplectes orix, 1 of 4 red bishop species that occur in Africa, south of Sahara. Remember seeing lots of these stunning birds in wetlands around South Africa. An escape for sure, but a great garden tick- basically seeed-eaters + may survive if it can escape the local Sparrowhawk. In non-breeding plumage they are quite drab sparrow-like birds. |

| | | Re: strange red bird , can anybody help id it? hi,
i would like to thank every body for their help,
i think the picture has been removed because of an outside link,
but great that people were able to help despite the pic being removed.
i managed to get a few more images of it and some video (not very good)
if any body would like me to send them , please email me gd303uk@hotmail.com
i have a lot of sparrows tree and house feeding in my garden and even a sparrowhawk who likes to visit and take one of my little friends, its great to see a sparrowhawk catch a bird and very sad at the same time, i have quite a few sparrows nesting in my roof and have not replaced the weather boards so as not to disturb them, i have also a starling that stays with the sparrows and makes a strange noise , like a sneeze,
but when i noticed this redbird i was so excited i couldnt remain calm ran around my house for a camara and tried to keep my cat in( she is a bit fat and half blind so never attacks birds) and panic untill i new i had at least one pic,
so i am very pleased that you were able to help,
thank you
G
