Smile Heron

Hello, I had a surprise today after returning home I went to open the door to let my little girl out and there was a heron about 6ft from the door. It flew straight off but it was lovely, even though I assume it was eyeing up the newts and tadpoles in my ponds. It flew to the roof opposite sat there for a while then flew off. Hope everyone is ok.

Re: Heron

What a home coming! I'm lucky to see a Robin in the Garden, never mind a Heron.

Re: Heron

We have a heron who visits our pond but as soon as he sees us he's off like a shot (but I'm glad cause he likes to feast on our fish). But the other evening I was hiding behind the garage and I turned around and came face to face with him and he was about to land nearly on top of me . He hadn't spotted me as he came in to land.I don't know who got the biggest shock him or me. I don't think I'll ever get that close to one again. And I didn't get a shot because I had just turned my camera off. typical! I bet your Heron got quite a shock as well woad!

Re: Heron

The Heron that visits landed outside my porch in front of half a dozen visitors yesterday I do not know which was more suprised! Such a handsome bird and it only weighs around 3lbs.!
It has become less of a visitor since a pair of gulls took up residence on the chimney of a masonic hall down the road, they give it short-shrift when it enters their airspace.

Yes that is the only downside to this amazing bird Woad

I was watching one being mobbed by crows last week in my neighbour’s tree. I felt quite sorry for the little guy.

Re: Heron

Hi Barbara, hehehe, I can imagine the shock on both sides. I get between 4-6 reed buntings in the garden and on the bird table every day, they are lovely little birds too and the other day saw the shy thrush that comes in. I knew he came as there are a big pile of snail shells in one point in the garden but, I don't very often see him or her. I'm just hoping that heron didn't get all my newts.
