Re: Grey Heron (I think)

Most certainly a Grey Heron Phil. Nothing else quite like it on our shores.

Some good images you have there.

Re: Grey Heron (I think)

Really nice pics.

I went out of late on a couple of occassions following Heron but didn't get anything as nice as these shots.

Is this a juvenile Grey Heron as the head is still pretty grey without the strong black banding, and the bill colour is quite dull which is I believe how you differentiate a juvenile from adult?

Lovely series of shots of a juvenile grey heron, I especially like the third one where it's staring at a bit of down between it's beak lovely close up!

I think it is a young one, judging by the feathering.

Cheers demicav.

I have to say that I love Grey Heron, While the guys down at the local reserve are all in the hide lakeside watching other things I tend to spend my time on the other side of the little island watching the Grey Heron instead.

We have a large number of Grey Heron in the Midlands and just about half a mile away from the reserve in a country park there is a reasonably sized Heronry.

Re: Grey Heron (I think)

might have been better for the mods to delete the whole thread rather than just remove the pics i tried uploading the permitted 3 pics to this site, but they were rejected
but thanks for the comments anyway

Hi Phil

We permit 10 photos a day not three. Why were they rejected?

Perhaps you should have put them into the Forum Images gallery and linked them from there (you can still do that BTW)

John

sorry, i'm quite new here and missed some of the rules, i linked the pics from photobucket, and got a pm saying i should have uploaded them here in the gallery, so uploaded 7 pics without noticing the rule of only 3 uploads per species, so after the 7 were rejected i selected 3 to upload which were also rejected

Just stick them in the forum images - thats what i always do as my photos are never good enough for the gallery (not that urs arent...) - there is no restrictions there

If you place them in the Forum Images gallery that rule doesn't apply. I would upload any photos that you intend to include in a thread to that gallery (unless they are the odd good photo of a species that will benefit their rightful gallery).

John

Re: Grey Heron (I think)

Love these birds...remind me of a couple of summers ago while sitting out in the garden ...my large ginger cat was high up in the sycamore tree heard a lot of flapping about ...only to see a Grey heron fly off..My cat must have had very high hopes that day ....

Great pictures ...well done.

Julie

Re: Grey Heron (I think)

These are lovely shots and will be moved over to the Heron gallery in due course.
I've had a look at them and if you uploaded them to the main gallery as they are here, they would have been rejected because you made no attempt to name them correctly. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the size or quality of them.

This may be so, but we would prefer that good images like yours are loaded to the main gallery, where they belong. It's far better that way in the long run, makes finding and looking at them far easier than wading through all the forum images.
