| | | Baby birds A day spent waiting at home (for someone who never arrived!) was not entirely wasted, as it gave me a chance to watch the bird feeders, where I had the pleasure of seeing the year's first juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker. There was also a male adult feeding, and, judging by the amount he was taking, either has some young still in the nest, or belongs to a separate nest. I have suspected in previous years that there are two nests in my garden.
I also saw some young Great Tits feeding.
Whilst sitting on the doorstep, eating my lunch, I heard a Blackbird squawking and looked up to see a Sparrowhawk fly overhead. No doubt it was that, or a close relative, that left the Wood Pigeon in front of my neighbour's gate, partially plucked and eaten, on Friday morning.

| | | Your post has made me more determined to take my coffee out into the garden, just to sit and observe as you did. Lucky you to see such a variety of bird activity - every cloud has a silver lining!! |

| | It's been a long time since I've seen a Woodpecker anywhere near our back garden, but Flora seems to have got lucky recently as she's just posted this pic in the gallery earlier today |
