| | | Exhausted Wood Pigeon Found this little chap wandering around the garden at 7.30 this morning unable to fly..
Stuck him in the cat box and gave him some food and water and after 7 hours of rest off he flew... one less meal for the local cats.. |

| | | Re: Exhausted Wood Pigeon Aww! Well done griggers
Looks like a juvenile to me. They're big birds and maybe he just hadn't found enough food locally to get his energy back? |

| | | Re: Exhausted Wood Pigeon apparently 44% of sick juv wood pigeons admitted to wildlife rescue places are suffereing from metabolic bone disease. Difficult to detect (requires x-ray) no mention of a possible cure, very sad, the future is decidedly less bright for these ones.
you can but try though |

It would be very unusual, but not unheard of , for a Kestrel to take a Wood Pigeon, whereas female Sparrowhawks quite commonly take them. |

| | | Re: Exhausted Wood Pigeon Oh, yes, that's a juvenile Wood Pigeon and that's for sure. I saw one yesterday walking up and down along with about four adult Wood Pigeons. It didn't seem like the juvenile was able to eat though, since everytime I threw down nuts to him, he just ignored them. The other Wood Pigeons ate them though. I have seen them eat monkey nuts with the husk still on too. A adult Wood Pigeon then starting pecking the juvenile and the juvenile starting making meeping sounds. I am unsure if this was the mother or not, but she was pecking him quite hard. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
