| | | which wonderful birds did i hear? hello, i hope you can help.
I was in Glastonbury early June 2007.I was lying in my tent around 11am, all i could hear very high above me were 2 birds, one to the right and one to the left. (they must have been circling around for hours.)
its very hard to type what i heard but, i'll have a go.
first of all .every song/call was very different from the last, unlike say a crow or a pigeon.
they were very melodic and perfectly in tune. i lost count of how many variations.(beautiful songs) wow.
o.k the strange thing was that , although the songs were so different, the second bird to the left was repeating the song to the right, at times both birds were perfectly in sync or just a few milliseconds apart.i was in the centre on the ground.
it was so amazing i cant explain how it felt. is it possible they were improvising or did they learn all these tunes from their parents or other birds in a flock?
well i hope this was enough info.
does anyone know what type of bird this could be?
thanks for any help. Even a guess would be great, i'd love to find a recording of this bird.
kind regards.

i heard a very short clip of a skylark ( 3 secs) it does sound very much like what i heard.
But it is hard to be sure because the clip is so short . what i heard were hundreds of phrases that were different from the last.
i shall see if i can find a better source on the internet , maybe there is a cd dedicated to this bird? it certainly deserves one. i so wish i had my recorder that day. next year i shall see if the same bird is around and record it and post a link on this site for you all to enjoy.
I haven't found a nightingale clip yet tho. I shall have a further search
thanks so much for your help , i would never have found a lead otherwise.
best wishes |

There are audio clips on birds on the RSPB website. Just click on 'birds by name' and there's an alphabetical list of birds in the UK.
I heard a skylark for the first time this summer and they sound great, don't they!

| | | Re: which wonderful birds did i hear? I doubt if there is any other bird in that locality that would stay in the air for long periods singing other than a Skylark.
Definitely not the skulking Nightinglale as they call from deep in vegetation, plus there aren't any around Glastonbury as far as I am aware.

Wow i would never have found this out otherwise.
Those 2 birds i heard were something special, i must admit. i love bird song, but not only did they have many wonderful phrases it was the way they knew what the other was about to do.
As i said i was right in the middle (i'm actually a sound engineer by trade) and they blew me away.
a birds mind must be operating at a very high frequency and extreme low latency with regards to hearing and singing . (like a super audio computer)
to think they may have been perhaps only a year or two in age? Yet they can fly and sing in the way they do.
best wishes.
