| | | More birds ? There's been a marked increase in the number of birds on the feeders, for the past 2 weeks, would you agree?
Nuthatches, goldfinches, Tits, Sparrows, Starlings, Doves, Pigeons - in more numbers than usual.
This morning we had 8 Goldfinches, that's probably 2 families. Loads of Tits, and as I cut the lawns 30 mins ago, 3 Goldfinches were sitting on the feeder perches, facing me, taking no notice of me! What a lovely picture ..........
Photo's ??? I've had to send the camera to hospital with metering problems!!
Just my luck!

I seem to be over-fun with Chaffies atm (at least 4 males and 2 females today), plus a coulple of Dunnocks, Robins, Blue Tits, juvenile Blackbirds, juvenile Bullfinch, Greenfinches, Goldfinches (3 at least including a juvenile) and the pesky pigeons of course! (about 10 of them ) oh and one juvenile Jackdaw - seems I have a bit of a nursery going on here atm lol!
Good day for birds in my garden today! Caught some pic's of my juv Robin earlier - will post them on 'bird of the day' in a bit |

| | | Re: More birds ? I have noticed a decrease in birds this past week here. 2 Collared Dove, 2-3 WoodPigeon, Robin, Wren, Blue Tits, 1 Goldcrest and 1 Great Tit. No Finches at all, not even Starlings have been stopping. Cheers

| | | Re: More birds ? Numbers seem about the same in my garden. The House Sparrows that are regulars every day and the odd Blue tits, Chaffinches and Greenfinches plus our regular Robin and Dunnock. Did have a flock of Long tailed tits pass through last week but by the time I got the camera out they had long gone.

| | | Re: More birds ? Fairly quiet in my garden at the moment.
I'm sorry to say that after thirteen years in this house I've still not seen a finch of any description. We have blue, great and long-tailed tits, house sparrows, robins, blackbirds, wood pigeons, collared doves, starlings, ring-necked parakeets, great-spotted woodpeckers, magpies, crows, the occasional jay and a resident wren but not a single solitary finch!

| | | Re: More birds ? Im so glad you posted this as i thought i was going mad. Had only just mentioned to my mother a couple of days ago that i have never seen the feeders so busy and such a wide range of birds (again as others have...many chaffinch, all the tits, robins, dunnocks goldcrest (today) and i have what was a first for me in the garden a week or so ago now is a regular every ten minutes nuthatch! (got a pic of him today ill try and add to my bird of the day)
I just find it odd that my feeders are so popular when everything is in berry ? ( and i live in the centre of the countryside)..blackberry, hawthorn, etc etc?
Is this something to do with all the wet weather? any ideas anyone?

Dan | I have a bird book that says that July/August the birds moult and are vunerable to predators. When they are fully fledged again, they return.
That's one theory anyway.
