wigan bittern

i seen the other day that they were reporting having a bittern at wigan flash anybody local know this or seen it ,am going there tomorrow so will try my luck

Hi there .... welcome to WAB.

I believe that Wigan Flashes is a regular wintering site for Bittern but September is perhaps a bit early unless there was an over-summering individual or even a breeding pair.

I have been to Wigan Flashes before and there is a huge reedbed. Given this and the fact that the Bittern is a very elusive and skulking bird, the chances of seeing one are low. Maybe some local knowledge will help with the best location and time of day.

yes your right ,no luck .the only decent picture i got was of a couple of damselflies common blues i think although that seems an unfair description
