| | | Kingfisher I got up very early today as it was my day off , jumped on a train to Eastleigh in Hampshire and had a nice walk along the river (Itchen I think), got my first ever pictures of a Kingfisher, had to use digital zoom to get the shots so they arent all that good. This is the best of the three I managed before trying to get closer and being spotted
I also saw a water vole
I saw deer, dozens of long tailed tits, herons, jays, reed warblers, too many others to
mention, well worth the 5 o clock rise.
Hopefully I can get up early again tomorrow and go to Dorset and see what I can find at Holton Heath.

| | | Re: Kingfisher Great photo's Za, digital zoom or not! I have yet to see a kingfisher or water vole in the wild. Your list of other things you saw was pretty impressive. Good luck for tomorrow . |

| | | Re: Kingfisher Thanks Goosey, this is the first time I have seen a Kingfisher, so I was over the moon. I walked the same route a couple of months ago hoping to see one as it seemed ideal habitat for them, but had no luck.
I could hardly believe it when I saw it perched only 20 feet or so from where I was walking

| | | Re: Kingfisher Good photos Za despite the digital zoom. I still get a thrill when I see a Kingfisher so can imagine how you felt seeing your first one. The Water Vole is also a very nice sighting as they are not nearly as common as they used to be, although they do seem to be making a comeback in some areas.
Thanks for sharing your experience and photos

| | | Re: Kingfisher So *jealous*!!!
I too was fortunate to see 2 Kingfishers today on the river Wharfe (possibly 3 - wasn't sure as one went downstream then 20 mins later 2 came back up!) - would never have got them on my camera as they fly so bloomin' fast, but well done to you and your patients Za!
The water vole is a furry that I've yet to see in the flesh too and if I'm not mistaken it's munching away on watercress isn't it?. I think your pics are great considering the circumstances - I'd be well happy lol! |
