Request for a bird ID please

Spotted in our back garden in Wimbledon last week.

Unfortunately the camera didn't focus properly, but hopefully still recognisable.

From the dimensions of the fence, I'd guess the length from head to tail to be about 38cm.

Your bird is a Sparrowhawk, looks like a female.

Hi Gareth, tis a shame the pics are blurred, I am no good at taking pictures, the more I try well the worse i get lol lol. It looks a predatory bird, not unsimilar to one flying about our feilds around here.

I was going to suggest a sparrow hawk, but it seems more "owl like" in the photo.

Hope someone can try ID it for you soon.

I'd have said Sparrowhawk too although I wouldn't be able to tell the gender.


I need more practice with my camera too so don't worry!!
