| | | autumn migration in full swing Hi all,
Went to Weir Wood and Bough Beech Reservoirs last night to try and track down a juvenile White-winged Black Tern, which I didn't see. However, there were large numbers of adult and juvenile Common Terns with a few Arctics, 14 Blacks, and one Sandwich. There were also tons of Swallows, House and Sand Martins. At Bough Beech there was also a juv. Peregrine and a Little Egret. Weather was quite awful being squally and difficult to bird in but it added to the atmos'.
Cheers,

| | | Re: autumn migration in full swing I have been watching the pager Adam and there certainly has been large movements around. Hopefully I will get into some on Saturday prior to joining the Athena.
Have a safe journey to Falmouth.

| | | Re: autumn migration in full swing Aye, see you down there John and have a safe trip. I hope my recent run of bad luck doesn't follow me to the boat. Following on from weather affected trips to Devon and Norefolk this summer I dipped the Frensham Purple Heron on Sunday and Monday. Someone claimed it flew into the only bit of reedbed we couldn't see from where we were watching. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday there have been two different WWB Terns at Dungeness RSPB - I was there on Tuesday. The Bough Beech bird was claimed before I got there and whilst I was there but in a different area.
Anyway, 215 for the year. Let's hope for a bit of rough on the high seas next week. There's been a bit of LT Skua movement down Kernow this past couple of days on the pelagics.
Cheers,

| | | Re: autumn migration in full swing Blimey, and I thought I was in a run of bad luck. It pales by comparison to yours.
Virtually anything that comes by us is likely to be a year tick. I have managed Bonxie and Arctic Skua as well as a Manx's but apart from them any Shearwater, Skua, Petrel and the scarcer gulls will increase my year tally (which currently is on 242 - BOU list). I would love to have a close up of a Sabine's as I think they are cracking gulls.
I will give you a call once we are ensconced on the boat.
