| | (urgent)pigeon hit window, now dopey/hurt today a pigeon hit our window lightly, and fluttered against it for a while before falling and waddling off.i followed it from a distance, and it didn't fly, even when i got close.later,it managed to flutter to a branch ,relatively safe, but it hasn't moved in two hours, even when my dog ran under it!i am a bit worried, should i try and get it if it doesn't even move in a couple of hours,by then it will be dark!or should i leave it the night?
answer soon,it is pretty important i get some advice!hope it will be o.k out,but just to be sure,it's quite a young one and it looks pretty dopey, even for a pigeon!
would be great to get help as soon as possible! |

| | | Re: (urgent)pigeon hit window, now dopey/hurt if its not obviously hurt i would guess its a bit concussed - it might be worth moving it into a bush or similar if its in an open an vulnerable space but otherwise i'd leave it to its own devices ( if you move it wear gloves and wash your hands well after wards as pigeons carry a fair number of nasties) Note If you cant catch it easily then its able to look after itself
if it is hurt or if it hasnt moved by morning you need to take it to a wildlife rescue centre
edit ;oops didnt read that propperly - yep Im with za on tyhis if its flown up to a branch then its fine - id only move one if it was on the floor in a vulnerable position.

| | | Re: (urgent)pigeon hit window, now dopey/hurt Hi Cresshead, pigeons are pretty solid, and as it has managed to flutter up to a branch, I would imagine it will be ok, they arent the smartest of birds, but if it knew to flutter up to safety I should think it will be fine.
I had one of the dopey things in my bathroom yesterday, the only room in the house without an open window, it had come in from another room and I heard a lot of noise as it fluttered against the close window knocking everything over.I caught it and let it out.

| | | Re: (urgent)pigeon hit window, now dopey/hurt it isn't hurt obiously, and could flutter a bit,so i think it's wings are o.k at the least.it is raining and cold, but it is in shelter in a bush, about head height,so i think it is safe from dogs at least, although a cat might be able to reach it in a pinch.it is a good tree,as far as good trees go!i'm just gonna check on it,i think i'llleave it at least a bit more, don't wanna stress it by chasin' it all over, any more advice?i'm pretty sure i could get it if i tried,it's quite quiet and dopey!would i try a blanket or something?don't want to scare it to a more vunerable perch.....at the moment it's o.k,i'll see how it goes |

| | | Re: (urgent)pigeon hit window,now dopey/hurt hi za,you're right,if it is hard for me to reach it,then a cat would have a hard time ,too.unless the weather gets really bad,or it's in danger,i'll leave it.i'll keep you posted! |

| | | Re: (urgent)pigeon hit window, now dopey/hurt i'd leave it anyway frankly , bad weather etc are part of nature and it will be more stressed by you chasing it arround than it would by a rainstorm.
and owls largely prey on mice and voles - pigeons arent a normal part of their diet - if its smaller than a pigeon but not obviously a baby it could be a dove perhaps.
