| | | Re: Nuts!! I ran out of peanuts a few months back, but had a bag of mixed fruit and nuts in the cupboard. I picked out the the fruit (added them to the ground feed) and put the Brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts in the feeder and they went down a storm - the birds didn't seem picky at all. It is an expensive option though. |

| | | Re: Nuts!! The past few years I've been buying the "tesco" cheepie raisins and sultanas they go down a treat with Thrushes. Maybe a little expensive but in hard weather I feel they are well worth it. Cheers

| | | Re: Nuts!! I have put out a variety of nuts. I usually have a lot of nuts leftover after christmas, etc, which get put out for the birds, I crush them up into smaller pieces and they clear the lot! Mind you, this works out more expensive than buying regular peanuts. The squirrels also love the nut medley, (usually cob, brazil, walnut, almond, etc), but will not eat cashew nuts! |

| | | Re: Nuts!! Aswell as putting peanuts in my squirrel feeder i have made a monkey nut nest for them out of a larger wicker plant holder which is shaped like a horn & have hung this right near the squirrel feeder. They love nibbling through the shells to get to the nuts. There favourite food is hazelnuts and they seem to be early this year. What foods that are usually good for the birds is usually good for the squirrels also! You may have to accept this and just try to enjoy them | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
