| | | I'm sorry, I'm going to drive you nuts again. I heard a bird today that I also hear on 'Mountain' this evening if anyone was watching it.
It was like a whistling sound crossed with a seagull but not quite. Sounded like 'Ah-wee-oop, ah-wee-oop' but quite rapid. I've been on the RSPB site, listened to all the gulls, every variation of buzzard, and even osprey as a rumour had cropped up more than once that there's one knocking around Cheddar Reservoir, but nothing sounds like it.
I'm now going to tear my hair out while the sound replays perfectly in my head!

I live between the foot of the Mendip hills, which is mainly deciduous trees and a network of dykes. I've had a listen to the lapwing and curlew on the rspb site but it doesn't sound like any of them.
I'm going in my garden later with my little camer that records movies to see if I can hear it again and record the sound. It was more of a whilstle than a 'cry' if that makes any sense .

| | | Re: I'm sorry, I'm going to drive you nuts again. I did think it was a song thrush because of the repeated phrase (and I know we have one knocking around) but again, that phrase wasn't on the recordings I've heard on other sites.
Next sunny day we get, I'm going out in search of the little blighter! haha.

| | | Re: I'm sorry, I'm going to drive you nuts again. Be driven nuts no more!! It was a Herring Gull .
I recognised the 'nasal whistle' and that's what was driving me insane - knew I'd heard it before. Went to Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday and heard the same call, looked up at it was a Juvenile Herring gull.
I can sleep now. *rofl*
