baby sparrow

Hello,
I really need some help.I live in Tunisia and this afternoon we found a baby bird just by the entrance to our building.I think it is a sparrow. We have palm trees all along our street which are full of birds.Unfortunately,there are also a lot of cars and children!Anyway,the branches of the palm trees are very high! I didn't want to leave it so I brought it home and put it in a nice nest. We have already successfully rescued a budgie.
The problem is that although I prepared some cat food I can't get it to open it's beak. I'm afraid it will die. I've been trying for ages.No luck. Can anyone give me some advice?

perhaps it is not appropriate food yet if so maybe try another type of food or break the cat food up and feed it a smaller piece sorry im not much of a help am i!!!!! martin

how big is it, and how much feathers does it have.

I have found if you stroke just under the chin it occationaly encourage's them to open up. But Messy though.
