European Serin (Serinus Serinus)

Hi all,

I'd like to host some European Serins in my live plants aviary (height: 3m, width:2m, depth: 3.5m) which already hosts 2 canaries. I was told and even read that they are really difficult to breed. Is
there anyone who can give me some good tips\opinions\ first-hand- experience about these serins, like; best plants\trees they tend to opt for, types of nests, seeds they eat, anything I should be always aware of, when do you think they'll breed provided my climate (I'm from Malta, just above Africa - Mediterranean Climate) etc...?

Help is greatly appreciated as no deep info is available on the web (at least I didn't hit the type of website I was looking for)! Any kind of knowledge, experience and opinions are more than welcome!

Sorry but for me WAB is all about Wild birds and wildlife in general.

I don't mean to upset you but I abhor caged birds. They should all be free flying.

I personally think you should seek out a caged birds site. They should help you but I urge you to think again about caging Serins. They are a wild bird and should remain so.

Isnt it better to go out and watch them in the wild. Or are'nt there any in Malta now.

Isnt it illegal to cage wild birds in this country??

We went to a store to buy wild bird feed a few days ago and I was disgusted at the amount of birds that were caged, I wanted to open them all up and let them fly free - but that would have been silly because there were parrots and all sorts of exotic birds...nothing wild should be caged, except the "wild" human
