Anyone find this useful?

Birdwatch magazine this month have the complete checklist for spotting the Birds of Britain.

Not sure if there's a prize for the first person to get them all though

Re: Anyone find this useful?

Don't let me stop you buying the mag, but British Birds magazine has an online list of birds of the Western Palearctic (requires Acrobat):
http://www.britishbirds.co.uk/Bb%20list%202006.pdf

What's Birdwatch magazine like, by the way? I've never tried it.

I was wondering that as well. Also, is it widely available or subscription only? I don't recall ever seeing it in WH Smiths etc.

Re: Anyone find this useful?

Is available in WH Smiths (where I got mine from), and I find it very useful having id pages between similar birds. Also covers foreign trips. News is not so useful as most of it, I've read here.

Re: Anyone find this useful?

I mutch prefer Birdwatching as I think it has far more content and is better value for money. I pay a yearly subscription and it comes to my door a few days before it gets into the shops.

Re: Anyone find this useful?

I get that as well, but have only started the last couple of issues - both have enlightened me - though not as much as WAB it must be said.

Don't worry about latin names. If the bird has been ID'd correctly in Britain I will have the latin name for it so if anyone finds one without a latin name let me know, just in case I miss it.

John.

Re: Anyone find this useful?

I have taken to using the BOU lists. All the birds ever in Britain with their latin names. Only takes a moment to download it into Word.

I downloaded it into Excel, it makes tallying life and year lists a lot easier!

Hi Rob

A mate of mine has designed a fabulous bird data log using Access. I use it for all my bird sightings. I can also add photos and videos to it if I want to.

I have posted a link to it. If you, or anyone else is interested, the Download link is on the right hand side of the page.
