All birds which have been caught by dogs or (particularly) cats need to have an antibiotic injection as soon as possible otherwise they often get septicaemia & die. it is more likely to be this than shock.
If you find another, it is best to find your nearest wildlife rescue centre or vet to give it the antibiotics it needs.
You did the best you could & well done for giving soaked, dry dog food.
P.S. I think it was a sparrow but not 100% certain from the picture.
