| | | Baby Sparrow Hello,
I've found a baby sparrow outside my front door that has been there for at least two hours! I live on a main road and don't think there's much chance for the baby sparrow as it is.
I can't see a parent nearby and going by the traffic on the road and the amount of town cats nearby what should I do?
Any help quickly appreciated.... |

Don't know if you should move it, but i would'nt have the heart to leave it if the parent can't get to it.

| | | re: Baby Sparrow Leave it where it is. The parent is nearby so the bird will be looked after by the adult. If you touch the bird, your scent may cause the adult to abandon it as it will not smell like its youngster.
Cheers,

| | | re: Baby Sparrow The little thing is still outside cant see a parent and its getting dark
Do I let nature take its course ? I will feel bad if its dead outside my letterbox in the morning!
Will its parent still come back if it gets dark? if not should I bring it indoors?
If I do bring it indoors what should I feed/how should I feed/keep warm etc?

| | | re: Baby Sparrow Unless the parents are obviously close I would put it up in a bush or tree and leave it
Unfortunately it is a real live or die situation and interferring rarely helps

| | | re: Baby Sparrow Well? Did you bring it in or leave it?
If you brought it in then you can feed it with finch/canary/budgie seed or shelled sunflower seeds/wild bird mix chopped up small. Put in a small dish of water too. It'll be fine overnight and then you can pop it back out the front again to see if mum and dad come back for it
Sounds like it's been abandoned to me though... If it's eating and drinking ok when in your care, then it will be fine on it's own in the big wide world |

alot of small birds don't have a great sence of smell. | I know mammals do abandon their young due to this on occasions, but birds dont, thats why chicks are ringed before they leave their nests.

I am hoping it made it back to mum at the last minute!..and one of the town cats did not get it.
