Good News

Hopefully next year the eggs will be fertile, but its a start!

Thats great news just hope no clowns try and rob them, fingers crossed they will hopefully rear some chicks next year and increase in population

Good question, Think its just a hobby similar to stamp collecting, rarer eggs are worth more etc, or they sometimes steal and rear them such as falcons which are worth alot in the middle east. I may be wrong though, i think its pointless, they should get a photo collection no harm done that way.

Well one bloke trying to rob an osprey nest (i think) fell out the tree and died. Im not saying he deserved to die but he was asking for trouble!

There was a famous egg thief died last year after falling out of a larch tree while "looking" at a Sparrowhawk nest, he had previously taken a chainsaw to a tree to try to get at an Osprey nest. In 1985 his egg collection was confiscated and he had over 2000 eggs, including Golden Eagle and Red Kite(very rare back then).

no, me neither. i do know a couple of the collections went to big museums who then keep them in storage for comparison against newly found ones, so that the police can convict people of illegally collecting. they use a couple of very big victorian collections for the same thing.
