| | | Least Favourite Bird in the UK (if thats possible) Recently I have seen a few threads on here regarding what is everyone favourite bird in the UK and why? Well, I thought it would be interesting to see what birds people don't like and why.
This could be as far ranging as a bird that wakes you up early EVERY morning to a species that impacts on habitats, like Canada Geese on grassland at Carsington Water in the Peak District.
For me, it has to be Ring Necked Parakeet for for three reasons. Firstly they look nothing like our native species. Secondly they are noisy devils, especially once you get 10 or more in an area. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, they compete for resources with other native birds and I am uncertain how much of an impact they are having on native numbers. They will compete for food and nest sites and the fact their numbers have increased since introduction means their impact is gaining momentum.
OK all, let the nominations begin!! |

| | | Re: Least Favourite Bird in the UK (if thats possible) I'll have to go for Canada Geese I think, but to be honest, I like to see them flying over and honking at dusk.
I enjoy birdwatching, but my least favourite 'group' of birds I think are ducks. I still like them, but they are just my least favourite!

| | | Re: Least Favourite Bird in the UK (if thats possible) Living in a small seaside resort i'd have to say Herring Gulls. They are such a nuisance to the village. Pesky things will not leave people alone, I've seen children been attacked for there food , i have been pooped on more than once by them and being big birds it's not very nice! Houses get covered in the stuff. They also cause problems for our resident Choughs and give Puffins a lot of trouble too.
I think they're pretty birds and have good character but there are just far too many of them in our seaside towns.
Don't feed gulls!

| | | Re: Least Favourite Bird in the UK (if thats possible) Feral pigeons are a pest, but in my eyes the Magpie is the main villian, raids our nest boxes and terrorises the young birds, we definitely have too many Magpies in this area of South Derby. but thats just a laymans opinion. Jon |

I second Geoff's Jade Goody comment, though.

| | | Re: Least Favourite Bird in the UK (if thats possible) I'll join in with the Ring-Necked Parakeets. It's not that I dislike them per se but they are definitely in the wrong place. I read recently that there are now an estimated 40,000 of them in Southern England. That's got to be having an impact on native birds.

| | | Re: Least Favourite Bird in the UK (if thats possible) For behaviour- magpies. I put out some perfectly good Bakewell tarts for the little birds on my feeders and the magpies found them and ate them in half an hour flat! They also bite chunks of skin out of a rescued racehorse here, its quite gruesome, he has very fine delicate skin and is not strong so doesn't fight them off.
Last summer a great tit drove me mad in the evening it was so loud and just wouldn't shut the *bleep* up. |

| | | Re: Least Favourite Bird in the UK (if thats possible) I can't really say I dislike any bird. I suppose the Herring Gulls come close to birds that annoy me sometimes. We have 2 chicks on our chimmney and the adult tries to attack me the minute I walk outside. But I don't hate them for it, they are only protecting their young. Although like I'm going to be able to reach them all the way up there lol! No I can't say I least like any bird... |

jen xxx | I know where you are coming from the way they behave in the
garden, but watch carefully and there is a defintite pecking order.
And you can't name starlings as their ariel displays when they
come in to winter roosts with tens of thousands is one of the
most spectatcular wild-life sights in UK |
