| | | Bird Ringing Does anybody know enough about Bird Ringing to do a piece in the Reference section. I am sure that members who do not know about it, see pictures of birds with rings on and wonder if they are escapes or something.

| | | Re: Bird Ringing Had the opportunity to watch this at the Lee Valley Bird Fair and how informative was it.
I found it amazing listening to the guys explaining what they were doing and why.
Also the amount of information one chap was giving us just by opening and checking the wings of Greenfinches........he practically gave us the birds birthdays and which tree they were born in.
Some people really know there stuff. |

| | | Re: Bird Ringing Agreed about some knowing their stuff. I used to see the bird ringer at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough but every time I went last year I missed him by a day. I was either a day too late or on a couple of occasions a day too early. As you say absolutely facinating and very educational as well. My best time was when he had a Grasshopper Warbler and he showed me all the relevant features. Also the way the birds stay so still in his hands, it is marvelous to watch.
