| | | Help identify this yellow bird plese Hi
I wonder if anyone can identify this bird. It was seen at the top of a tree in my back garden. I live in South Bucks near a wood. As you can see (hopefully), it has a bright yellow belly - not sure about the top! I would estimate the size to be about that of a blackbird - maybe bigger. Definitely larger than the greenfinches I see regularly in the garden. I am pretty sure it's call was a rapid, high pitched oscillation followed by a another note dropping - sort of tz-tz-tz-tz-tzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. (Sorry, difficult to describe) |

| | | Re: Help identify this yellow bird plese I would go for Greenfinch, the beak is the right shape and the stance suggests Greenfinch to me. I think the light on the photograph has exaggerated the yellow colouring on the breast.

| | | Re: Help identify this yellow bird plese The colour looks too uniform to be a yellowhammer, plus the yellowhammer beak is generally darker. It looks spot on for a male Greenfinch to me. |

| | | Re: Help identify this yellow bird plese Hello TerminalMan,
Welcome to this friendly forum!
Your bird is definitely a Greenfinch in my view, albeit shown in a very oversaturated jpeg. Knocking back the saturation to more normal levels brings up a nice cock greenfinch, apparently in pristine breeding plumage, basking in full sunlight. Was your picture taken earlier this year perhaps?
Wild-Woman has identified one of the key points: the yellow edges to the primaries. You have made the clinching ID argument though in your description of the calls - typical Greenfinch!
