| | | Favourite bird sounds I've just looked at mrblackbird's thread on 'fav birds' and elsiek's thread on Jackdaws. This has reminded me that my favourite bird sound is definitely that of Jackdaws (though I can quite understand some people hating the sound!). I'm not sure what it is about Jackdaws, but it gladdens my heart everytime I hear them. What are other people's favourite bird sounds? I'm sure some people will go for Cuckoo, and others for the booming of Bitterns. Skylarks, too, of course! |

| | | Re: Favourite bird sounds hi scaredemkrew,
Yes, I like their sound too. I posted on the 'Fav birds' thread that long-tailed tits are my second favourite bird after red kites, and one of the reasons I like them is their constant chattering amongst themselves.

| | | Re: Favourite bird sounds chattering swallows in the barn where i teach, before the noise of children followed by the silence when the children leave and the swallows can be heard again. Second the call of a soaring buzzard, oh how i wish.............. |

| | | Re: Favourite bird sounds For me it has to be the Curlew, I live on the edge of Poole Harbour and have grown up hearing that plaintive call.
We recently had a holiday in the Shetlands and there were Curlews nesting at the bottom of the garden where we were staying, absolute heaven.

sophie | Have had no House Martins at all this year, last year we had loads - hope this is not a sign of things to come, hopefully they will be back next year.
For me the most annoying is the Collard Doves that nest in the trees at the bottom of our garden, they are at it all the time - no wonder there are some many of them around here, randy little beggars.
