| | | Re: Game bird? Looking at the image of the bird in flight I feel that it is an adult bird (it looks to have moulted some flight feathers). If it is a Quail of the type shown by the link from Pigeon Feather then it will be an escapee as it is not like the Quail that migrate to breed here. They have very marked faces.

| | | Re: Game bird? I keep quail. The bigger ones are up to 1lb in weight and about the size of a 6-7 week old pheasant.
Short flight.. did it take off nearly vertically ?
Looks like a quail. Acts like a quail .
Looks like a female quail. Males would make a sound.. females are virtually mute..
There are hundreds of eggs sold on ebay every week and the incubation period is short 16 days with 6 weeks to maturity so could easily have been hatched in early May...And because they do vertical takeoffs (literally), they can escape pens easily if the roof is opened... but they only fly 10-20 mtres at about 1 metre height ... Pheasants fly quite long distances - about 20-50 metres usually about 2-5 metres high (at least those that visit our gadrden do) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
