| | Dead sparrows in my garden Help!
Had to bury 4 sparrows in two days; the first one i found was just feathers and bone, the last 3 were newborn but untouched - just dropped on the patio).By coincidence a Jay has appeared in the garden this last week. I am now on constant watch as we have around 30 sparrows resident in the garden which have been nesting in our roof and they are an absolute pleasure to watch. Its got to the point where i dare not leave the house. Any help or advice would be great. Thanks in advance

| | | Re: Dead sparrows in my garden Hallo chuffy, welcome to the forum. It's nice to know you have plenty of sparrows as they are in some decline.
I can't give a definitive answer to your question, but the mortality rate of young small birds is always high. It could be something to do with the weather and subsequent lack of natural food (sparrows feed their young on insects).

| | | Re: Dead sparrows in my garden Thanks for the response - much appreciated. Survival of the fittest I suppose.
No casualties in the last 2 days - no sigh of the jay either. Hopefully ill get my daughter to school in time tomorrrow morning - do dead sparrows justify a late mark on the register?
Ill post some pictures of the sparrows as soon as I work out how to use the camera!
Regards
