| | | Can anyone recommend a CD of british bird sounds I have searched the web and there are a number of these available - I wondered if anyone who has any of these would recommend theirs - or what the differences are between them..
Thanks |

| | | Re: Can anyone recommend a CD of british bird sounds I have both of Geoff Sample's books (Urban Birds and British Birds). They are both excellent and available everywhere. I got mine from Amazon. The latter is organised by habitat as well which is pretty useful if you are off for a coastal walk or a wander through the woods.
But you can get a good number of songs on line at the RSPB and BTO websites (plus associated pictures and some video footage of some species).

| | | Re: Can anyone recommend a CD of british bird sounds Hi there,
I would recommend the RSPB BIRDS OF BRITAIN AND IRELAND PC edition. It has every sound that each individual bird makes with life photo's and pictures. It also has the best bird watching sights up and down the country on it, together with a decription of birds types and even a map of how to get there.
It may cost you but I think its well worth it! |

| | | Re: Can anyone recommend a CD of british bird sounds i bought 'british bird sounds on cd' from the tesco website for £12.50. i recommend it. It has songs and calls for 175 birds over 2 cds. It says the bird name, then the sounds, no other descriptions. |

| | | Re: Can anyone recommend a CD of british bird sounds I've got the Collins Field Guide for Warblers Songs and Calls. Whilst it doesn't cover all birds, it covers the summer visitors in real detail. There's 3 cds full of hundreds of calls, taken at different times of the day, parent bird with young, male to female ect. ect. It's extremely extensive. Well worth the £9.99 I paid from a local Garden Centre. |

I've used the PDA to confirm a call in the field a couple
of times.
Couple of caveats though:
1. You can only hear the bird song by clicking on the bird
so you know what it is, and I don't find that a good way
to learn.
2. It has no alarm calls
3. Its a real nightmare to get it up and running for a second
time if you change hard disks, or, as in my case, have a
fault on the mini-sd.
The independent newspaper gave away free birdsong CDs earlier ths year
and I think they are available to buy at very modest cost. |
