| | | Chiffchaff or willow warbler I'm sure this question has been asked many times before but help would be appreciated. I looks more like a chiffchaff but the legs seem quite black.
Regards, John

| | | Re: Chiffchaff or willow warbler Without hearing it sing I wouldn't like to put money on which it is. Very difficult to distinguish between the two, but I'm going for Willow Warbler but will most likely be proved wrong

Roger | I'm so glad you said that as I commented in the Gallery that it looked like a Willow Warbler but I'm really still learning with some birds. I hadn't thought that you could ID a bird through it's song , how silly of me but then again you can't hear them sing on a forum can you . |

| | | Re: Chiffchaff or willow warbler So why isn't it a Chiffchaff?
much more of a brown bird than yellowy green.
Chiffys have dark legs and Willies usually have pale legs.
Chiffchaff to me!

Chiffchaff to me! | You are probably right Oscar2006, I did say I would probably be proved wrong

| | | Re: Chiffchaff or willow warbler Chiffchaff. The clue is in the eye-ring, very noticeable in Chiffchaffs not really easy to see in Willows, also with the darkish legs that clinches it for me. Nicola.

| | | Re: Chiffchaff or willow warbler This is always a potentially difficult ID .... unless you can hear the song but we are having a problem with that on a silent WAB .
I would have to go with Chiffchaff too .... browner colouration and darker legs.
By the way, if in doubt they are Willowchiffs .
