In September, 2005 the Chilterns Conservation Board launched a new scheme encouraging members of the public to donate money towards its red kite awareness raising work.
For a contribution of £15 or more, donors will become ‘Friends of Red Kites in the Chilterns’ and will receive a gift pack including information on red kites and an exclusive badge and car sticker. The money raised will go towards promoting red kites and other Chilterns wildlife through Nest Watch projects, walks, talks, fun days, festivals, education work in local schools and production of literature.
“The Chilterns Conservation Board is keen to organise more red kite walks and talks and popular initiatives like the CCTV Nest Watch,” says Cathy Rose, who co-ordinates the work, “but for this valuable work to continue, we need to find more funding. Red kites have become very popular and we hope local people will want to help us promote them and the other wildlife of the Chilterns.”
