Stone Curlew Sightings

I went for a walk today, and I heard what I thought were Stone Curlews and, yes, I saw them flying around, some were on the ground and were calling, the others, as I said, were flying around.

Does anyone else know if these are rare birds or not.

Yes they are fairly rare birds, a Schedule 1 species, but with active conservation measures the populations have been increasing in the core areas such as the Brecks, Wiltshire downs, etc.

What area/ habitat were your birds in?

I saw them in a heathland area.

And it's good that I have seen my first ever rare bird!

Yes, they are a relatively rare bird but easy enough to see at a small number of recognised sites.

I usually see them at Weeting Heath Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserve.
