Is this a Goshawk?

Seen over a Northumberland moor last year.

Re: Is this a Goshawk?

Can you remember any details of how it flew. actions, etc.?

(Looks quite Raven-like).

Re: Is this a Goshawk?

It was soaring quite high up, eventually heading out of sight over the forestry. The area (near Harwood) is known for both Gos and Rave-ons.

Re: Is this a Goshawk?

From the photo alone I wouldn't like to say. Did it make any call? What time of day was it? Was it alone?
We have Goshawks nesting right by where I live and they tend not to fly around too much during the day unless disturbed. Usually they hunt during dawn and dusk. Mind you I suppose it could be just flying for fun!

Colour, shape - long, wedge shaped tail, thick throat - all say Raven to me.

Re: Is this a Goshawk?

My apologies to everyone who replied, it actually was a moulting female gos. I thought a mystery bird might create a stir!

She flew right over my head and then circled higher and higher. The pair nested and succesfully raised at least one chick to fledging last year.
