Bird Food

This may seem a silly Question, But hey am going to ask anyway
Are there certain foods that will entice certain Birds into your garden.
Do some birds prefer certain food, rather then the general sunflower seeds, and mixed seeds or meal worms??

I think that your best bet is putting out mixed seed to attract most birds but putting out fat will attract starlings, nuts in a mesh feeder at all times of year will attract birds such as greenfinches, woodpeckers, tits and sparrows sunflower seeds or hearts will attract all the birds that come for mixed seed. Apples will attract blackbirds and thrushes,robins absoloutely love mealworms but like everything else they are usually taken by the blooming starlings, thistle or niger seed will bring in green and gold finches and you could also attract birds with other fruits but other than apples and pears nothing really works. other members will probably give you better advice but this is what i use to bring the birds to my garden. regards Martin

We have two birdfeeders at the front of the house, you know the ones that have a plastic clear bit at the top and come with different coloured bases. One of the feeders is green, the other is yellow and the local birds will eat only from the yellow one!!! We are now trying to find another yellow base to replace the green one. We know it is not the position that determines their choice as we have swapped them around and the result has been the same, only food from the yellow one is taken.
