| | | Blackbird diet Just seen a female blackbird attack and kill a moderately large froglet in my garden. I didn't know they would do this, but having read in my Observers Book of Birds that they eat worms, snails, grubs, insects.... I suppose it's not surprising... |

There is a fledgling blackbird which seems to have made itself at home in my back garden over the past few weeks and he has picked up quite a few tasty morsels in the shape of froglets from around the pond. It is difficult to watch the froglets being eaten without the odd pang because I have watched them develop since they were spawn, but that is nature for you. It is also rather amusing because the young blackbird is still a bit unsteady on its legs and has fallen into the pond more than once.
