Dipper Photographs :-)

I took these today and am very happy with the results. It is also the first time a dipper has been spotted on our river for a few years. Lovely to watch and a joy to photograph. Can I put some up in the gallery?

Take care

Ian

Re: Dipper Photographs :-)

Lovely shots! Not the easiest of subjects either. I've only seen dippers twice, once in North Wales and once at Fountains Abbey, and both times they stuck to the shadiest parts of the river under bridges or heavy foliage.

Some excellent Diper shots. You asked if they can go in the Gallery, of course they can! I'll transfer some over.

Re: Dipper Photographs :-)

Fantastic shots! I used to see dippers frequently many years ago (too many years for my liking) on riverside walks in various locations around the country...... Haven't seen one for ages now though.

Re: Dipper Photographs :-)

Great photos Ian, we have a few on the River Yarrow and they also have their favourite perching spots and of course I keep promising myself I will get set up and take some photos.

What puzzles me is at the moment they are obviously feeding young and when the river is normal (where I can wade in it with my wellies on) they can feed easily but take yesterday after almost 24 hours of rain and the river is so swollen it can sweep a man away, how do they cope then?

Sorry to go off track, once again Ian thanks for posting the great photos.

Carol.

lush pics, we have them up in brecon and the local valleys, they're very entertaining. What lens did you use ? the pics are really clear.

Hi Galanthus

I used a Canon 400 usm L 5.6 lens. I am actually a bit dissapointed thinking back as the lens would not focus properly so I swithced to manual whcih was not great idea as I was steaming up the view finder!! It was only today I realised I had the lens switched to 8.5 instead of 3.5.... Doh! Ahh well we live and learn..Im still v happy with them.

Take care

Ian

This is another pic that came out quite nice I think

what i'd really like to do is get some shots of them walking underwater - but short of a nikonos and an aqualung i'mnot sure that this is really practical - tho the bbc nhfu did manage to get footage of this for planet earth

Re: Dipper Photographs :-)

Lovely shots, has anyone any suggestions for venues in the North West. I am aware of the Peak Distict and North Wales near Cilcain, any other venues?

Yeah

It is possible but with the limitations we have on equipment and money its a tricky one. However some good luck, very clear water, aqualung, large fish tank and a very long remote trigger we might be in luck

In the mean time I will stick with crawling about the river bed. Lol

Take care

Ian

Lovely shots, Ian.

I have never seen one, but look forward to it - not many running streams in the Fens!
