| | | Baby Blue Tit Wonder if anyone can help, my cat has kindly brought in a baby blue tit. The bird is still alive and well, only he has a broken leg, that's all!The Vet and RSPCA have said, that all they can do, is put him to sleep. Surely they can remove a leg and let him live a happy life???
Let me know what you think, he's in a box at the moment!
Thank you |

| | | re: Baby Blue Tit Is it able to move around ok? I used to have a few birds visiting the garden that didn't have use of one leg for various reasons, and they seemed to manage fine.

| | | re: Baby Blue Tit Thanks Guy,
Yeah he is moving around in the box we have put him in. Thing is, who will be willing to take his leg off and let him live? The Vets have said they would put him to sleep!
Is there anywhere that would rescue him and do the necessary treatment?

| | | re: Baby Blue Tit You could try local wildlife centres, I'm not sure whether you've got any locally but these are often good in dealing with wild animals and are less likely to put it to sleep.
Alternatively, if it can move around then you could release it as chances are that it will soon adapt to life with one leg and it should manage, although I'm not certain that this would work as well with perching birds like Blue Tits as I've really only seen one-legged ground feeding birds.

| | | re: Baby Blue Tit I think your main consern will be the toxins from your cats teeth and claws.
most birds that are cat attact die with in the first 48 hours. I beleave if a bird is'nt 100% it should'nt be released it is'nt fair to exspect them to cope in the wild with deformitys.
