This looks like a new visitor to our garden. He was very hungry and looks young and lean.

Is that the first shedding of the juvenile brown colour from his adult yellow beak?

Lovely pic - could be what you suggest but I expect it's more likely to be something he's got stuck on there from feeding. I'm willing to stand corrected!

Thanks here is a slightly tighter crop to see the beak better.

Almost certainly not a juvenille from this year, as i don't think the beak will turn Yellow until winter. Looks to me as if the bird has something stuck on the beak
