| | Unknown Warbler? Hi all,
Looking through yet more pictures from Aber Falls, I found this. I was thinking that it might be a Chiffchaff, but the feet/beak are the wrong colour. Thought maybe a possible Wood or Willow warbler?
Thanks
Steve

Firstly .... nice photos .
Secondly .... not sure . There is a hint of a yellow breast there which suggests Wood Warbler to me .... plus they are present in the woods at Aber. I spent yesterday looking for one at Ynys-hir and later in Snowdonia and did not even hear one singing .... most unusual for May in Wales.

| | | Re: Unknown Warbler? There were plenty about in Aber Falls, met this goy from the Wirral whom knew the songs of the birds. Said the Wood Warbler started like an old Vespa Moped - this one wasn't singing though :-(
Might be an immature? Or Female?

| | | Re: Unknown Warbler? Hi back from 10 days away.
The best description I can give of the wood warbler's call is like a coin being spun on a glass table top, then ther's the "tue tue tue" which is reminiscent of the nightingale. |

| | | Re: Unknown Warbler? A Vespa and a spinning coin .... interesting .
The Wood Warbler's song is quite distinctive once you have heard it a few times .... which I didn't yesterday .
To hear, click on the RSPB link and then click on "play" under the title. RSPB - Wood Warbler

| | | Re: Unknown Warbler? I'm no expert but I'd have to say that this looks like a Willow Warbler to me, doesn't look quite right for a Wood Warbler, there is no way near enough yellow on the breast. |
