shooting in Malta...

We've all no doubt heard reports of the shooting of wild birds around the Mediterranean but the photos really bring it home. This is an outrage and I can't believe it's allowed to continue.

Yes there's a reason I have boycotted Malta and this is it..... sooooo sad.

I know we shoot birds here, but at least we breed most of them for purpose or manage habitat to promote high numbers (frequently in a way that benefits other species too)- natural stocks are not depleated. However, we still shoot a lot of migrating birds in the winter, is that the same thing? Its perhaps not on the same scale, less of a cultural right of passage that its considered to be in Malta.

I agree 100% Matt. It's time some sort of law was brought in to stop this. I'm not familiar with how the government in Malta works or how it would be feasiible to stop this but I would certainly like to see an end to it not just in Malta but any country where this happens.

I thought there was already an EU directive to stop the shooting and trapping but obviously the Maltese Government are turning a blind eye to it.

This is terrible. Definately don't holiday there. I'm against holidays in Spain also as they treat their animals in a disgusting way .

And sadly we still export our animals 'over there' don't we? Makes you wonder what the EU's all about but that's a different matter.
