Losing your hair

Having just had my twice yearly haircut, I was reminded to put the trimmings outside for those birds that like a nice cosy lining for their nests.
It has been suggested that people who put nasty chemicals on their hair shouldn't do this.

I never thought of that. I put the dog hair out for the birds but I use frontline at least they won't get fleas

It is also good to put out the lint from your tumble dryer.. providing you dont use biological washing powders and fabric conditioners.

It's bad enough when the ladies who cut my hair are almost in tears, because, they say, most women would die for hair like mine. What the reaction would be if I asked for the trimmings I can't imagine!

we scarified the lawn last week and currently have a big pile of moss - i have stopped my old dear from sticking this in the compost and instead piled it on the patio - it doesnt look the best but at the rate tits , finches, wrens , blackbirds, thrushes, robins, and spuggies are taking it for nesting it wont be there very long

You should never put out lint from the tumble dryer. It gets wet and can cause hypothermia in the chicks as its not wool it goes into a wet mass in the nest and holds the water. You can buy wool for nesting or use natural hair.

Re: Losing your hair

Every time I comb my hair I get enough for a decent sized toupee. Shame I can't put it out for the birds.

But you could make a fortune if you sell your hair to Elton John or Terry Wogan's wig maker
