| | | Any tips to stop window bird strikes I know this is a pretty obvious question but I just wondered if anyone had any tips.
I bought some 'Window Alert' stick on leaf shaped decals for my patio doors. They are supposed to reflect ultra violet light. Invisible to humans but glows a warning to birds.
I am still getting bird strikes and sometimes duck strikes its a wonder they dont break the glass.
I know you can get the bird shaped stickers but I hate the look of the things. Is there anything else available out there? Any tips welcome.
I have vertical blinds which does stop it happening but then I can't look out and see the birds and the garden!!! |

| | | Re: Any tips to stop window bird strikes I have tried all the stick on things but still get impacts, the vertical blinds
in any position are no deterrent.I have looked hard at the patio door and
cannot figure out what it is they see,the door is shaded by a porch so
there is not much of a garden reflection
Perhaps a reflection would show their own image closing at speed and deter
them, with the amount of glass in modern buildings a fool proof solution must
be worth money!
So to sum up thats a "don't know"

| | | Re: Any tips to stop window bird strikes Birds tend to fly into Windows because they see trees ,sky etc reflected in the glass which confuses them.
I am not sure what the solution is apart from blocking all reflections... I know that the RSPCB
reccomend Bird Stickers. have you looked at the ones they sell to see if they are any better then the ones you have seen ????

| | | Re: Any tips to stop window bird strikes That is a coincidence as a Collared Dove flew into the window not five minutes ago and frightened the life out of me, it was such a bang. luckily it survived and flew straight off. It has left a big greasy impression of the birds shape and the wing detail and chest shape is obvious. In October a dunnock flew into the window and was killed out right. I have thought about the stickers but cleaning the windows would prove difficult where you wouldn't be able to use the squeegy thing in a smooth motion - I have had this problem with the kids window art things. |

| | | Re: Any tips to stop window bird strikes i use a sillouhette of a giant moose with unfeasibly large antlers - that works quite well - though possibly the birds just realise that i'm a bit strange and give me a wide berth

| | | Re: Any tips to stop window bird strikes I've been using the transparent maple leaf shaped Ultraviolet reflecting stickers now for over 12 months and have had no known bird strikes since applying them to the windows, I used quite a few. My friend took a pack and still had a couple of strikes, but then I noticed that he had put them on the inside, he has now moved tham and has had no more strikes.
The window cleaner has no problems with them by the way.
I did get a pack of the spider web ones as well, but found that with time the webs would generate naturally. |

Fingers crossed........... |

I have never seen the transparent UV reflecting stickers just the black ones that look like bird silhouettes. Where do you get these ones - I think I will give them a go, and I'll remember to put them on the outside.
Thanks Rolf | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
