Blackbirds singing all night long

My question - is this usual?

I have a tendency to wake up several times in the night and over the last few weeks have heard a blackbird singing away no matter what time I've come to. Is this normal behaviour? It's certainly new to me.

its certainly not abnormal. at the moment the birds are singing a lot in our garden as well, and although i think they occasionally get a bit confused with the street lights, with it being spring i expect that they're all just singing their little hearts out!

Re: Blackbirds singing all night long

I have heard Robins, Song Thrushes and Blackbirds all singing in the middle of the night .... plus some very dubious elements of the Basildon population on Friday and Saturday nights .

In urban areas of course it is rarely totally dark with street lights, shop lights, etc. so the birds do not experience "night". The question I always ask is when do they ever sleep if they are singing during the day and during the night?

Re: Blackbirds singing all night long

I know they do sing in the night... I have one here who does.. and I have no street lights...
I have had various experience of birds singing all night on camp sites in france. I had always put it down to the warmth ..could that be a factor with these blackbirds etc

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free
Blackbird fly
Blackbird fly
Into the light of a dark black night
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Paul McCartney ( The White Album)

That's a great song-it's partly going through my head now even though I've currently got Bill Withers singing in the background!

Re: Blackbirds singing all night long

Oh thank you batwing ! i was just getting mildy angry at this thread and was about to post a response along the lines of
"Its nice to see the british public pay attention to the lyrics of classic world famous british artists like Lennon and Mcartney......I.E...the BEATLES?"

I guess someone will ask on here if submarines come in yellow? or "Hey...i just thought?...Why dont we give peace a chance?"

Let it be dan.....Let it be.

Interesting to hear that others have experienced the same thing and yes I was aware of the song.

Re: Blackbirds singing all night long

We have lots of blackbirds on my street but I have never heard them singing as much as they are at the moment. I assume the males are after mates but they perch at the top of a tree and just sing the same repetitive (though quite long) tune over and over.

very peaceful to listen to at night and the beatles song always goes through my head too when I hear them!
