Operation Sawfly II
Posted 26-07-2009 at 09:00 PM by wildlifepilgrim
Exciting things are happening to my Rose Sawflies. As you may recall, having found tiny rose sawfly caterpillars on my roses I took some into captivity for observation and left some on the bush. By observing what the captive sawfly do and become I should stand a better chance of phoographing a Rose Sawfly cocoon out in the wild. Check out these pictures.

As you can see the caterpillars have started spinning silk from their mouths. They started this after about 6 house of frantic walking. Maybe they normally do this away from the rose bush.
Eventually I want to have a caterpillar - cocoon - fly set of photos for this species
