Spotted Sandpiper,North Cave Wetlands.
I travelled over the Humber estuary back to my home county of Yorkshire today,to pay homage to the gorgeous summer plumaged Spotted Sandpiper that had been found the previous afternoon at the superb North Cave Wetlands. After arriving at the unearthly hour of 04.45,i soon located the bird feeding around the islands on Twenty Island Lake and it showed well down to 40 metres, giving great views through the scope.I spent the next 2 and a bit hours watching the bird and it was occasionally chased by the local Little-ringed Plovers and Avocets, but generally put on a good show. This was my first sighting of this stunning american wader in Yorkshire.
